  1. hi i have completed plab exam and hold gmc registration,if i just pass amc part 1 can i work in australia without completing 1foundation year in uk.

    1. Hello. Yes. There is a work around where if you have the full PLAB and AMC Part 1 you can apply for a 12 months supervised job in Australia and do this under the standard pathway but also count it towards your competent authority pathway experience requirements.

  2. Hi Anthony!
I completed my both plab exams and got gmc,if i will only do AMC part 1 exam, will i be able to secure AMC registration and can apply for jobs in australia ??
    Kind regards.

    1. Am assuming you have not worked in the UK.
There is a workaround the Competent Authority Pathway without experience issue, which is to do the AMC Part 1 exam as you suggest.
This makes you eligible for jobs under the Standard Pathway in Australia. 12 months experience in Australia completes the competent authority pathway experience requirement.

  3. Hi,
I will have plan to complete PLAB and wanna work in Australia as a doctor. After reading your nice explanations, now I have known that it’ very possible with plab .But Is there any difficulties and discrimination with plab vs AMC in Australia. And is it possible to become a consultant in Australia after getting registration vis competent pathway with plab.

    1. Hi Sharmin
With the PLAB you have to do @ least 12 months in the UK and are then eligible for the CA Path. So yes. At this point you will be seen as better than someone who has just done the AMC.

Once any doctor has general registration in Australia they can apply for training and work their way towards being a consultant.

  4. Hi Anthony
Thank you for explaining all this in such clear terms
However i have a question that i would love for you to answer

If i pass the AMC Part 1 and start working in Australia under supervision (limited registration) for an year and then decide to simply give the New Zealand’s NZREX Clinical part then will i be exempted from AMC Part 2 and obtain Complete Registration in Australia ?

    Waiting to hear from you
    Regards,
    Dr Noshab

    1. If you complete the requirements for general registration in NZ. This counts for General Registration in Australia.

  5. A question that I don’t get answers on other sites: after PLAB 1 and 2, I understand that the FY needs to be carried out, however, in my case, my country of origin replaces the FY1, not being necessary to carry it out. Therefore, could only FY2 be used as “12 months of supervised training in the United Kingdom”?

  6. Hi Anthony, thanks for your great topic.
My situation is that i am now registered with Ahpra in australia as an RMO working at hospital (under supervision – limited registration). I have already passed both Amc mcq and Plab1. Question is, Can I go for Plab2 instead of Amc Clinical to recieve my General registration in australia?! (Having only completed 12 months under supervision hospital job in autralia, Not in UK)

    1. Hi Nima
You are correct. There is an obscure rule that if you complete the Qualification requirement in one of the other CA countries (e.g. the PLAB) you can count your 12 months supervised experience in Australia towards General Registration.
