RACS Applies A 10-Point Competency Framework To Its Training Programs. Understanding These Competencies In Surgical Interview Training Is The Key To Success In Your Interview.
Deliberative Practice
High performing sportspeople and musicians know the value of practising the hard parts of any task. We focus on key aspects of the interview process which once mastered will generalise to an improved performance throughout.
Immediacy of Feeback
Your first session begins with a check to ensure that you have the right plan in place. We then practise questions that you are likely to get at the start of your interview. Feedback is provided along the way. We then provide you with a video recording of your session (normally within an hour of each session) for you to review your performance and the feedback of the coach.

Why Are Interview Skills Important?
Whilst CVs, prior achievements, referees and other matters are considered as part of the application process. It often comes down to the interview to decide who gets the job. Sadly many candidates fail to adequately prepare for this important part of the medical job application process. A little preparation and practice can dramatically improve your performance.
What Trainees Have We Helped So Far?
Over the last 5 years, Anthony has helped trainees prepared for all of the forms of SET interviews, i.e. General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Vascular, Neurosurgery, Ear Nose and Throat, Cardiothoracic, Urologic, Plastics and Reconstructive and Paediatric Surgery. This includes trainees from all over Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to these trainees, Anthony has also helped coach trainees for similarly competitive programs, including Anaesthetics, Ophthalmology and Dermatology and most of the RACP Advanced Trainee Subspecialties.
How does it work?
Upon payment, you will receive immediate entry into our interview skills course and be able to begin your preparation straight away.
Once you book your first coaching session you will work one on one with our expert Medical HR coaches during a series of 45-minute web-conferencing sessions. After each session, you will be sent a recording of your session for your personal review.*
We recommend 3 sessions. Additional sessions are available should you wish to purchase them.
You will be able to practice a number of the common question types that occur during an interview and be provided with feedback on your technique, including body language, tone and content. If you have one or two specific questions you would like to practice we are able to accommodate these as well.
We use Zoom technology to conduct coaching. You will need a webcam, microphone and headphones a quiet space and reasonably fast and reliable internet. The system is generally very easy to set up. If you would like to test Zoom on your system you can do so here.
Why is this better than face to face coaching?
Face to face coaching is great if you can arrange it. But from our experience online is better for two main reasons:
- Firstly, it is generally easier to arrange a convenient time for both the trainee and coach and there is no time wasted in commuting.
- Secondly, the videoconferencing technology we use allows us to send you a copy of your session almost straight afterwards so you can immediately review the session, see how you went and practice. This is much harder to do face to face and would require significant additional cost.
