  1. I have finished my general medical degree in lebanon where we do the USMLE exams. Do i still need to do the 2 years clinical experience in the US before applying to australia

    1. If you have done all steps of the USMLE. Yes you could complete 2 years experience in the US and qualify for Competent Authority.

  2. Hello,
Thank you for your thorough article.
My question is with regard to how realistic is securing a job in UK with only internship.

Iam graduated from the Middle East and my plan is to work in Australia. Iam Australian myself.

I only have my internship from Middle East and intend to do Plab 1 and 2 from UK.

In theory I can apply for a 12 month training in UK after Plab 2 (either FY 2, or any other). But in practise, what are my real chances? I only have one year of internship to demonstrate for experience.

    Thank you

    1. Hello Khaled
I am not an expert on your chances of getting a job in the UK. My understanding is that it is easier than getting a job in Australia after the AMCs. But still competitive.

  3. Hi, your article was helpful. Could you please tell me if the online clinical examination (AMC part 2) is available for IMGs now?

    1. Yes. The online Clinical exam is now available. According to the AMC all Part 2 exam slots are filled for 2023.

  4. Hi!
I’m in the middle of Orthopedic Surgery training in Poland but wish to work in Australia. English is my mother tongue and I was wondering whether there’s any way/pathway to avoid sitting IELTS. From what I learned, I must pass AMC 1 and 2 and IELTS on top of that, scoring 7.0 from each part or total? Is that correct?

    Kind regards

    1. Hello Mon
As you are currently registered and practising in a country where you are not working in English and did a medical degree in a different language, you will unfortunately have to sit an IELTs test.

  5. I am,Dr.Merchant,M S an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist 70 years young,having AUSTRALIAN P R.Can I get a Job and prepare for AMC.?
    .

    1. I’d recommend you take my free courses on the Specialist Pathway and Standard Pathway.
Employers are not permitted to discriminate on the basis of age in Australia. But in reality it is generally harder for more mature doctors to secure positions here.

  6. Hi ….I finished my MRCPCH and just I started my GMC REGISTRATION…I am asking if still I need to do AMC Exams or not?

  7. Hi Anthony,

This is Rash. I have passed AMC part 1, but I may have to move to UK. Do I still have to take PLAB1? I mean if PLAB recognises AMC part 1? Or, I have to both PLAB1 and PLAB2?

    1. Hello Rash full completion of the AMC exams gains you a PLAB exemption and vice versa. But not partial completion.

    1. Yes. After you pass the PLAB and FY1, you can apply to work in Australia under the Competent Authority Pathway.
Registration is handled by the Medical Board of Australia (not the AMC).
you cannot just work as a General Practitioner in Australia. You need to undertake specialty training for this.

  10. I have cleared MRCEM and completed training in emergency medicine. 2 years in Ireland and 4 years in Shifa Hospital Pakistan. Can I apply for AMC exemption and which pathway to adopt? Kindly guide.

    1. If you are qualified in Pakistan as an Emergency Medicine specialist you may be able to apply via the specialist pathway.
I would recommend booking a strategy call.
