  1. Hi Anthony,
I am an ophthalmologist trained in India (3 years postgraduation + two 6 month additional Fellowships training ) and 15 years experience.
Could you kindly state what would be my chances of outcome following AoN specialist assessment please (if applying along with AoN job offer).
And what would the comparability chances for the Specialist Recognition assessment please. Many Thanks for your time !
    Regards
    Viv

    1. Most Indian specialists gain partial comparability. I don’t give definitive assessments on comments. You would need to book a coaching call with me to go over your circumstances.

  2. Hi I have done my mbbs, MD medicine , DNB medicine and DM infectious disease (3 yr fellowship ) and now considering the specialist pathway . Unfortunately I don’t see any job opportunities online . Is it better to secure a job first and then apply for the specialist pathway ? Or the other way around ?
    2) what’s the average supervision period in subtsrantially comparable and partially comparable outcomes ? And do we get paid during this period of supervision

    Thanks

    1. Hello Farhan
To answer your questions. Yes. It is generally better if you can find a job first. However, this is not the usual path as many employers wish to wait till you are assessed by the college.
      SC = around 1 year’s supervision, PC = 2 years.
You get paid whilst you are working.

  3. Hi Anthony ,
I have completed MD Pathology in India with 4 years of work experience after post graduation.I have already created AMC account. Now my question is if I go for the short term training for 1 year, what are the costs involved? Do I need a sponsor for that?
My second question is can I opt for the Area of need program?
In case of specialist pathway if I have to train under supervision, simultaneously can I earn my living? Is that possible

  4. I am an IMG radiologist who is highly motivated and desirous of pursuing a career in Australia. The preferred method for IMG specialists for initial assessment by the Australian medical board and specialty college (RANZCR) is the through the Specialist pathway – specialist recognition. The result of this assessment will likely be “partially comparable” (considering the recent trends and my clinical and academic experience). Once an IMG gets a “partially comparable” status after assessment he/she is required to undertake a year of supervised training in a RANZCR accredited institute (as a registrar). Now my question is – What are the chances of an IMG getting a registrar job at a RANZCR accredited institute (which usually includes majority of the current sites) ?

Simply put – How likely is it for an IMG radiologist to get a registrar job in Australia after being assessed as partially comparable?

    1. Hi Min
Sadly there is not a lot of data kept about this. You will probably notice that there are a fair few jobs advertised for Radiologists. But not so much for trainees. This gives you a reasonable idea of the prospects.

      1. Hi Anthony

Thanks for the prompt response. So considering the worser scenario that there is not a large demand/possibility for IMG radiologist to join as a registrar, then my question is :

1: After being judged as partially comparable after assessment, what are my other opportunities in Australian healthcare system?

2: Do hospitals/institutes offer a job to partially comparable IMG specialist and what are the chances of that?

I apologize for extending the conversation but lack of clarity of the scenario is the main hurdle for us IMG’s. Please help.

        Thanks
