    1. Hi its probably going to be hard. Even though there are laws against age discrimination in Australia. There are lots of junior IMGs competing for the few RMO jobs here. So more mature IMG doctors tend to miss out.

  1. Hi Anthony
You implied that the WBA program is a lower cost alternative for amc part 2. However i am finding that a WBA program now costs around 8000-14000. Surely we are paid during this 12 month period that compensates the cost?
As an Australian IMG, what are my odds of getting on WBA waitlist within a year? having passed AMC part1

    1. Hi I wrote this post some time ago when the costs of most WBA programs were considerably less than they are today.
Yes. If you are working in Australia you generally get paid and this helps to defray the cost. You can also claim these costs as a tax deduction. Also under many State JMO Awards you are now eligible for a professional development allowance.
If you have citizenship you will generally get into the interview pool for jobs when applying. You have to secure a job offer at a WBA hospital. They don’t guarantee you access to the program. Waitlists vary.

  2. hi
I recently got my permanent residency. I’m preparing for the amc exam now. do I also need to write the English exam?

    1. 99% Yes. The only Standard Pathway country that gets an exemption from an English exam is South Africa.

  3. In india mbbs is 4.5 years and 1 year internship then you get mbbs degree if one is interested in coming to Australia for residency/pg who has done mbbs from india is it mandatory to do internship in Australia? Can it be skipped and directly start residency

    1. Good question. The Medical Board generally issues you 12 months limited or provisional registration at a time. They will generally be happy to give you one extension and possibly another. After which it can get quite difficult.

    1. There is no reason you cannot apply for a WBA program even if you fail the AMC Part 2. You have to be employed first.

  4. Hi

How long is the AMC MCQ exam valid? Is there a time limit for appearing for the AMC part 2 after the MCQ exam?

  7. Hello Anthony,
Thank you for sharing this essential information.
I have completed specialist training in my homeland; however, the college has rejected them as comparable. Consequently, I’ve decided to start over with the standard pathway. Can I continue with standard pathway and start specialist training in anither field?

    Thank you.

    1. If you complete the Standard Pathway and gain general registration you can apply for specialist training.
